Why does everyone always conveniently forget to mention that part? 😬
Podcasting is hard work. It’s even harder when you aren’t growing, or getting closer to the goals you set in the beginning. This episode is dedicated to diagnosing and addressing 3 of the most common reasons podcast aren’t growing.
Your audience needs to know what to expect from your podcast—not just when to expect it, but what they’ll be getting out of each episode. Consistency isn’t just about schedules; it’s about content consistency. If your podcast swings wildly in tone, topic, or format, listeners will become disoriented and disinterested. To fix this, ensure your content is tightly aligned with your audience’s interests and deliver it consistently. Think about your episodes through the perspective of your target listener’s needs and preferences, and make sure each episode delivers value they can’t find elsewhere.
2. Podcast Marketing
No one wants to hear it, (and I don’t want to say it) but if you aren’t marketing your podcast, you’re not growing your podcast. Regular posts on social media are a start, but try out other strategies like networking at events, engaging in relevant online forums, and even guesting on other podcasts. Get business cards for your podcast, and don’t overlook the power of building an email list.
3. Quality and Planning
Finally, the hard truth: growth requires effort. This means not only creating engaging content but also investing in high-quality production and strategic planning. Listen to your episodes, improve your delivery, and plan your content meticulously. Try batching your episodes to reduce stress and maintain quality. If necessary, outsource tasks like editing to maintain a professional sound that respects your listeners’ time and attention.
Growing your podcast audience won’t happen overnight. It requires a clear understanding of your audience, consistent and strategic marketing, and a commitment to quality.
