Since 2020 I’ve produced and published over 400 episodes. During that time I’ve learned a thing or two about consistently creating content and the real struggle of creator’s block. In this episode I’m sharing my tested systems to make sure you never run out of episode ideas again. No matter your podcasting goals, consistency is the most important tool in any podcaster’s tool belt.
Start with One Simple Habit
One of the easiest, but most effective strategies I’ve implemented in my podcast creation process is keeping a dedicated note on my phone called “Podcast Episode Ideas.”
This has totally changed the way I podcast.
Whether it’s feedback from a listener, a suggestion from a guest, or a random topic idea, take a second to write it down. This guarantees you can save those genius ideas when they strike and they aren’t forgotten.
Remember: You Are the Expert
Remember, usually the easiest way to think about how to serve your audience is to think about where you were 5 to 10 years ago. Reflect on the questions you had at the beginning of your journey and use those to guide your episodes.
Do Your Keyword Research
Keyword research isn’t just for SEO experts. Simply using the search results of websites like Google, YouTube, and Reddit are invaluable for finding out what your listeners are interested in. Read comments, see what’s trending and look for patterns in questions and topics that show up over and over within your niche.
AnswerThePublic
AnswerThePublic is one of my favorite tools to use when I’m feeling totally uninspired or stuck. This website will give you 3 free searches per day (so use them wisely). Type in your primary keyword or keywords and hundreds of questions from real people will come up. These are the actual questions people are Googling, looking up on TikTok and YouTube.
Use with AI RESPONSIBLY
Our old new friend ChatGPT. 😁 Reminder: please use ChatGPT responsibly. NO ONE wants to listen to your AI generated content. Don’t kid yourself. I’ve created a ChatGPT prompt that goes into detail on how to actually create quality episode topics using information about your podcast. Download here! 👇🏽👇🏽
Analyze Your Own Data
Like Jay-Z said, numbers don’t lie and boy howdy, he wasn’t joking. Numbers will tell you what your feelings can’t. Take the time to login to your podcast’s Spotify and Apple Podcasts analytics. From here you can find out much more specific data than your podcast host provides that will help you better understand your own trends, preference and what people are ACTUALLY listening to!
I promise you, by implementing these strategies you’ll not only keep your podcast fresh and engaging but also ensure it continues to grow and thrive. Remember, the key to never running out of content is to remain curious, attentive, and responsive to your audience’s needs. Keep exploring, and I look forward to seeing how your podcast evolves!
