Have you ever noticed how we’ll do almost anything to avoid that tiny amount of extra work that will make our life so much easier?
The thing that constantly shocks me most is how many people have an incredible idea for a podcast, they just can’t seem to get those first episodes started. Because let’s be honest, there’s a fine line between later and never.
In this blog we’re going to break down 12 podcast episode topics that any business owner or podcaster can use to cultivate the customer journey and give you 3 solid months worth of podcast episodes.
First, let’s start with educational episodes. Positioning yourself as an educator builds trust between you and future customers, while giving you an opportunity to share your expertise in the industry without any pressure to sell. In my opinion, education is the best way to empower a future customer and empowerment equals sales.
Episode 1: Instructional or How To
This episode is all about showing off your skills and knowledge as a professional. Walk us through one of your most asked questions or teach us about something people ask about when they first start working with you. Make sure the question is simple and straightforward. While you want to position yourself as a professional, don’t forget beginners will be consuming your content and that’s who you should be speaking to!
Episode 2: Common Misconception
Everyone loves to hear about an insider secret. Share a common misconception in your industry that’s relevant to your audience and will help them! Again, this should be something even beginners can understand because chances are most of your listeners are new to your show!
Episode 3: Industry Specific FAQ
Use this episode as an opportunity to create a resource for customers and future customers. Do some research into your 4-6 most asked questions and answer them in an episode. This will give you a reference point to send listeners to and will bring amazing value to your audience.
If someone is listening to your podcast every week they came for the content and they’re staying for you as the host. Point blank. That’s how this cycle works. As a host it’s your responsibility to be both educational and informative. But what’s the difference? I see this as teaching vs. recommending. It’s informing your audience on their options to help them make the best decisions possible.
Episode 4: Testimonial for a Product
Now, I don’t mean take this as an opportunity to blindly sell an affiliate program link. This should be a carefully thought out testimonial of a product or service you actually use that’s helped you and you think would help your audience. This should not be about making money, it should be about giving an honest review that will help your audience.
Episode 5: Case Study of Results
At the end of the day, we all want to see or hear about the results. How have you used a new program, methodology or idea in your life and what are the results? When you see case study I know that might seem intimidating, but it’s not – your listeners want to know what’s worked for you and how they can implement it into their own life. It’s that easy!
Episode 6: Industry Expert Interview
Now things are heating up. If you’ve never had an interview on your podcast before I challenge you to take this episode as an opportunity to really get out there. Send that scary email and ask someone you really want to come on your show to come on – align yourself with an expert. Then, take that opportunity to ask them questions and talk about topics your audience really wants to know about! If you love them, chances are your audience will, too!
Don’t forget to make time in your podcasting journey for giving your audience some of the warm and fuzzies. We all appreciate content that’s direct and to the point, but I believe there’s just as much a place for inspirational content as educational and they both serve an important purpose for your listeners.
Episode 7: Share Your Personal Story
Tell us about you! What inspired you to start this podcasting journey? What brought you to the job and industry you work in? What makes you unique and different? These are all valuable stories and unique selling points that should be shared with the audience!
Episode 8: Before and After Testimony
You can make this episode literal or figurative, but podcasting like most artforms is about storytelling. Tell us about a before and after in your personal life, business or family that’s transformed the way you see the world.
Episode 9: Professional Mission and Vision
It’s not what you do – it’s how and why you do it. Use this episode as an opportunity to tell us about your mission and vision personally and professionally. Why did you get into your industry? What’s your biggest goal? Why do you want to succeed?
We’re finally here. The big sale. We’ve educated, informed, inspired and now we’re ready to sell our customer one the products and services we believe will change their business and improve their life.
Episode 10: Solve Customer’s Problem
What’s your customer’s problem or pain point and how can you solve it? Where does the customer need to go? How can they purchase your product? What does it cost? What are the details? This is a great opportunity to directly call out your customer, what they want/need and how you’re going to fix their problem for them.
Episode 11: Past Client Testimonials
How has your product helped other clients (be specific)! Interview a past/current client and talk about your product. How do customers find the product or service helpful for their life in real work scenarios?
Episode 12: Offer Overview
Dedicate an entire episode to your offer or service. What are your unique selling points? How does your offer solve the customer’s problem? Why should they buy? How do they buy?
