I’m going to start this blog by saying I have A LOT of opinions about podcast microphones. I’ve been a professional podcast producer since 2021, I’ve produced hundreds of podcasts and I want you to have a kick butt podcast.
All that being said, this is my holy grail starter podcast microphone. It’s a dynamic XLR microphone that’s amazing for a solo podcaster start out and building their podcast. Plus, unlike microphones made strictly with USB/USB-C imports this microphone can grow this your show.
- Has the clarity and power of my $600 microphones at a tenth of the price.
- The response is great, the tonality of the microphone is warm and rounded while still cutting through the mix.
- This microphone does an incredible job cutting out background noise and with the foam cover cuts out those unwanted plosives.
- It’s build like a tank, which is good for someone as clumsy and multitask oriented as me. There is nothing cheaply made about this microphone.
- For the price, you can’t beat the quality of this microphone. For new podcasters, this podcast is the perfect initial investment and will have you sounding like a professional (even if you’re still trying to figure out all the details).
Shop Zoom Dynamic Microphone
(Zoom Dynamic Microphone) – ($49.99)
About this microphone, as provided by Amazon:
- Large-diaphragm dynamic design captures smooth, broadcast-quality sound
- Super cardioid polar pattern provides focused pickup and excellent isolation
- High SPL handling ensures clean recordings every time
- Internal shock mount provides isolation from bumps and handling noise
- All metal body and grille stands up to daily use
IMPORTANT NOTE: This microphone does require an XLR cable and phantom power to operate. Meaning, you will not be able to plug it directly into a computer to record.
My best suggestion if you plan to record directly to your computer is Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen USB Audio Interface ($119.99). You will also need an XLR cable to connect the microphone and the interface, I suggest Cable Matters 2-Pack Premium XLR to XLR Cables (17.99).
